How cycling helped me revive my fitness regime
I started working as an intern for Summer 2011 in an IT company in Jax. The office was 7 miles from my house. I had looked up the transport system and found a bus which took me there. The only problem was, the bus was a mile from my house. So, I was supposed had to walk a mile every morning, for 15-20 minutes. The though freaked me out. I decided to buy a bike, which i could ride to the bus stop, and put it on the bus to office. Within a couple of days, I bought a sleek second hand bike from craigslist. This bike wasn't new (in fact, it was more than a decade old). But, it was light and fast, all that I needed. So, here it was, my first bike in the US. Having wanting one since the first semester, I was always apprehensive, since I wouldn't need it much. But now, I had to buy it for my daily commute.
The first day I got it, I had to ride it back home. I had never rode 7 miles before, but I was confident I would be able to do it. And ride I did !!! And I got hooked. I decided to cycle all the way, instead of putting it on the bus. I decided to ride in shorts and a Tshirt, and take a change of clothes to office.
14 miles a day started to show results. My jeans were as loose as ever. And it proved to be the best workout for thighs. I had developed a knee injury a few months back, and had stopped running. Now, cycling provided me the cardio I was missing.
This activity motivated me to get fitter, so I could cycle without any injuries. So, I went back to the gym, on alternate days. The brilliant cardio which cycling provided, proved to be very beneficial. I could see the results on my body. I was getting abs like never before. So, I was motivated to modify my diet for good. Now, I was eating more protein and less fat.
My journey continues, looking for the perfect nutrition and exercises for a well built body. My intern program is ending in a few weeks. I wont have to cycle 14 miles a day after that, but thats the sad part. I want to be able to do it daily, so I will need to find an excuse to cycle while in college. However, theres always the option of swimming.
Here's a pic of my babe.
